Below are some scriptures that say the dead cannot cry out:
Eccl 9:5 Dead know nothing
Eccl 9:10 There is no knowledge in the grave
Ps 146:4 Thoughts perish at death
Ps 6:5 no rememberance of God in the grave.
John 3:13 no man has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven.

Ecll 12:7 the spirit in man returns to God but obviously from the above scripture there is no consciousness in the spirit itself.

Heb 11 lists several heros of faith yet even though they obtain good testimony they did not recieve the promise yet. They won't be made perfect apart from others to come (Heb11:39-40).
Eternal life is a gift of God (Rom 6:23) but some claim we already have eternal life (an immortal soul). Ezek 18:4,20 show that a soul that sins will die.
All of 1 Cor 15 is about resurrection but it occurs at the "last trump"
1 Cor 15:52 At the last trump the dead are raised incorruptible
1 Thess 4:15-18 The last trumpet also announces Christs return. That is when the dead in Christ rise from the graves and meet Christ in the clouds.
Matt 24:21 Angels gather the elect when trumpet is sounded.
Reve 20:4-6 Resurrection of the dead in Christ (the second death has no power - truly they attain eternal life). The rest of the dead do not live again until the thousand years are finished.

Here is a link to article on Lazurus and the Rich Man

http://www.coghomeschool.org/site/cog_archives/booklets/Lazarus%20And%20The%20Rich%20Man.htmAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28227207.post-19431865071266247622010-11-09T11:35:23.944-05:002010-11-09T11:35:23.944-05:00facebook layouts

Still, they want to stick to minor variations on the theme, rather than do what they would actually need to, which is start over from scratch.

Way back when I nearly got sucked in by a cult called the 'whereveryouwer Church of Christ'...as in New York Church of Christ, etc. They used high pressure fear tactics to attempt to draft 'disciples' then haranguement and other tactics to attempt to keep you in. I quickly realized these were not the folk for me.

I also happen to have been a Catholic (can't actually say that now) but I have a wonderfully annotated copy of the Jerusalem Bible from the time, including a notation as to the compilers, who included one JRR Tolkien. The tricky part will be informing my wife that they teach a very naieve and simplistic view of the scriptures, especially including authorship, denial of 'conflicts' in the scriptures, etc., and that what they say 'the Bible teaches' isn't necessarily so...not that I quite understand the imperative emphasis on the Bible, anyway...the Koran essentially also claims inviolable inerrancy as God-inspired teachings, too...

Take the best, and leave the rest, I say.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28227207.post-15260863331592299532008-04-04T23:41:00.000-04:002008-04-04T23:41:00.000-04:00Thanks for your comment, RT. But my purpose is to share with them the Gospel.

If you are unfamiliar with JW's, they are very good at sounding "biblical," but you will notice that the studies are always accompanied by WT literature.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't study with them. But I am saying that if your motives are for finding the truth, then please consider giving an open hearing to the other side as well. I know things about the WT that almost no JW's know about. The organization is corrupt and has been guilty of falsely prophecying many times in the past.

Anyways, I would be very interested in discussing these issues with you. Please feel free to email me at entrsnm3@aol.com and i'll give you my take on any questions that you may have.Mike Felkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01974482615713418707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28227207.post-25125385389794823422008-04-04T22:31:00.000-04:002008-04-04T22:31:00.000-04:00Mike,I don't know if you receive messages regardin...Mike,

I don't know if you receive messages regarding comments. I found your posting via Google, since I was looking for JW and interpretation with Revelation...

My wife and I have been doing an in-home Bible study with some JW's, and I have to say that I don't understand their interpretation, based not only on this, but, further, how do they explain the 'transfiguration' and the appearance of Moses and Elijah, or the appearance of Jesus to the disciples in a locked room. Did he open the door? No, the verses indicate that, despite the locked doors, he "appeared" in front of them... sounds rather spirit-like to me.

Looks like just another case of another group of people saying "we have the only RIGHT interpretation of 'scripture'...and then reading both so much into and out of it that it should become clear to a rational observer that they are just as messed up as any other 'fundamentalist' group. *sigh*.

RTWhippleAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
