The God Delusion

The God Delusion is the title of Richard Dawkins' new book. I have not read this book but am somewhat familiar with his beliefs. But if you are not familiar with Dawkins, here is a recent statement that he made from pulpit of First Parish Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts,

"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."

Dawkins is vehemently opposed to religion as you can see. But I don't want to say too much about him because I haven't read enough of his work. This interview was conducted recently in support of his new book. I would like to hear your responses. How do you answer Dawkins' claims? If you hold to a particular religious persuasion, why do you believe it is true?
