Jesus and the dinosaurs

I heard that some of these came out of a childrens book on Jesus in an attempt to portray the co-existence of humans and dinosaurs. When I saw these, I pretty much forgot everything I have ever learned in my creation/evolution studies and died in a laughing histeria that continues to this very moment.

John Hagee has lost it...big time.

I never thought dispensational, pre-mill eschatology could ever go this far. But John Hagee has certainly proved himself worthy in an ad for his latest book:

Just a few highlights:

1) "Jesus did not come to be the Messiah"

2) Jesus was killed as part of a "Calvary Conspiracy"

3) Jesus "did not claim to be the Messiah"

UNBELIEVABLE!!! This man has completely lost it!

An insight on sin from a dead puritan guy

I've been reading a book called Of the Mortification of Sin in Believers by the puritan writer, John Owen. And I must say, although he wrote this book a few centuries ago, it captures insights on sin to the extent that i've yet to see in any modern writer. Here's one section that really spoke to me as I was reading this morning:

"Rise mightily against the first actings of your distemper [or temptation]; suffer it not to get the least ground. Do not say, 'Thus far it shall go, and no farther.' If it have allowance for one step, it will take another. It is impossible to fix bounds to sin. It is like water in a channel; if it once break out, it will have its course. Its not acting is easier to be compassed than its bounding. Therefore does James give that gradation and process of lust (1:14-15), that we may stop at the entrance. Do you find your corruption to begin to entangle your thoughts? Rise up with all your strength against it, with no less indignation than if it had fully accomplished what it aims at. Consider what an unclean thought would have; it would have you roll yourself in folly and filth. Ask envy what it would have; murder and destruction is at the end of it. Set yourself against it with no less vigor than if it had utterly debased you to wickedness. Without this course you will not prevail. As sin gets ground in the affections to delight in, it gets also upon the understanding to slight it."

I pray that this will speak to you as it has spoken to me, that we fight sin with everything we have (with the help of the Holy Spirit) to the day we die.

Dinesh D'Souza vs. Christopher Hitchens: Is Christianity the problem?

Recently, The New York Times best-seller, Dinesh D'Souza (author of Why Christianity is so great) debated the so-called "militant atheist" Christopher Hitchens (author of God is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything) on the proposition titled "Is Christianity the problem." You can watch the entire debate HERE which took place at Kings College in New York City. I highly recommend everyone watch this debate, as this form of atheism is becoming very influential in America as well as Europe. Here are a few of my thoughts as I was watching the debate:

1. More time should have been allotted for opening statements, rebuttals, and concluding remarks (which was compromised in order to get more audience questions in).

2. Is Christopher Hitchens drinking whiskey?

3. I really wish D'Souza would read Greg Bahnsen.

4. The cross-examination was a total mess. No organization. The moderator must have been asleep.

5. D'Souza chose to "leave the Bible out of it." Big mistake.

6. Did Hitchens really just question the existence of Jesus?

7. D'Souza looks kinda like Mr. Bean. I'm not gonna lie.

8. Hitchens questions the transmission of the text of Scripture, speaking of the Bible as "corrupt texts." I seriously doubt Hitchens knows the slightest bit about textual criticism. He'd probably make Bart Ehrman look like a conservative Baptist.

9. How many times is D'Souza going to interrupt Hitchens?

10. Yes, Dinesh. I agree that Hitchens is wrong. But let the man speak!

11. Wow. Hitchens really does hate Christianity.

12. This would be a lot easier if D'Souza adopted the presuppositionalist approach.

13. Waaayyyy too much audience participation. Moderator?

14. Its hard to say which was more emotional. Hitchens or D'Souza?

15. Overall, the debate was informative. Its hard to say who won because there simply wasn't enough time and it was too disorganized. But at least they had cross-examination; which ended up turning into interrupted monologues. Check the debate out and let me know what you think.

Witnessing to Mormons

With the presidential election on its way and Mormonism being a hot topic today as a result of Mit Romney, I thought i'd post something relevant. Check out this video and let me know what you think. Is this how we should approach witnessing to Mormons? If you were in the situation, what would you have done differently?

Also, I apologize for being absent in the blogosphere. I'm nearing the end of the semester (and also graduating!), and things have been hectic. Hopefully things will start picking up because I have about a jaggillion things to write about.
